Safeco, a Liberty Mutual company, encountered significant hurdles in its product development lifecycle and policy management processes due to the limitations of its existing legacy systems. These outdated systems not only slowed down innovation but also created inefficiencies in core operations—particularly in the way Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) data was matched and utilized within policy records.
The inability to seamlessly connect MVR records with corresponding policy information led to manual workarounds, increased error rates, and delayed decision-making. These inefficiencies had a direct impact on underwriting accuracy, compliance, and overall service delivery.
To address these gaps, the organization initiated a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) project focused on building a robust, reusable component capable of accurately matching MVR data with policy records. The objective was to streamline operational workflows, improve data reliability, and support faster, more agile product development—all while laying the groundwork for broader modernization efforts across Safeco’s insurance platforms.
